CBS 2 News Chicago runs story on the
Kiley Developmental Center

Kiley Developmental Center is a state run institution located in Waukegan, Illinois.  Kiley, like other Illinois facilities, has  been under investigation by Equip for Equality, which is an oversight agency investigating abuse and neglect.

On June 5, 2008, 10 pm, CBS Channel 2 in Chicago interviewed one family's tragedy in 2002 over the death of their son at Kiley.  CBS also interviewed Equip for Equality and highlighted the problems that Illinois has at its other facilities.

Many states have downsized and closed their institutional facilities for persons with developmental disabilities.  Illinois is unable to maintain both an institutional and community based system.  Downsizing of state facilities and redirecting needed funds to community programs needs to take place.
